劳伦斯威尔高中由范∙阿斯代尔∙布朗创建于1810年，当时叫梅登黑德学院，直到1883年才改名为劳伦斯威尔高中。当时的校长詹姆斯∙卡姆龙∙麦肯锡(James Cameron Mackenzie) 构想出了具有标志性的学校建筑体系。现在该校的建筑已经成为国家历史纪念建筑物，它是由美国著名的环境美化专业人士，同时也是纽约中央公园的设计者福瑞德里克∙劳尔∙奥姆斯特(Frederick Law Olmsted)设计的。在50年后的1936年，劳伦斯威尔高中又提出了第二个有特色的部分——哈克尼斯教学体系，到目前为止，学校一直采用小型圆桌教学，便于课堂讨论。学校位于新泽西州历史名镇劳伦斯威尔，占地700英亩，坐落在普林斯顿西南部五英里处。早在1828年，劳伦斯威尔就吸引了古巴和英国的学生，以及美国土著印第安部落的学生。今天，学校共有800多名寄宿和走读生，男女合校，提供9年级到大学预科教育，学生来自34个州和近40个国家。
